Frequently asked questions
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion runs inside your browser, with FFmpeg compiled for the web. Meeting recordings, personal audio, music demos — nothing leaves your device.
What formats are accepted and what comes out?
WAV and M4A (the iPhone voice memo format) go in; MP3 at 192 kbps comes out, which plays anywhere. To extract audio from a video, use the Convert video tool.
How much quality do I lose going to MP3?
At 192 kbps, virtually nothing perceptible for everyday voice and music — and the file gets much smaller than a WAV. For professional music production, keep the original WAV saved.
Why is there a size limit?
Conversion uses your device's memory: 300 MB on desktop, 80 MB on mobile. Above that, we warn you in advance — better than crashing your browser.
Why does it download ~31 MB on the first conversion?
It's the conversion engine (FFmpeg for browser). Downloads once and stays in cache — that's what allows converting without sending your file to any server.
