Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens inside your browser, on your device. You can even turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads and the tool will still work.
Why can't I select the text after compressing?
That's the price of the technique: to truly shrink the file, each page is re-rendered as a JPEG image. The PDF still opens anywhere, but the text becomes a picture — you can no longer select, copy or search it.
When should I NOT use this tool?
When you still need live text: documents that will be edited, contracts for digital signature, files that need search or a screen reader. For those cases, reorganizing with the Merge PDF and Split PDF tools works better.
How much smaller does the file get?
It depends on the content. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs usually shrink a lot; lightweight text-only PDFs can even grow — and in that case the tool keeps the original and tells you, instead of making your file worse.
Which compression level should I pick?
Balanced covers most cases. Maximum compression is for when the attachment limit is really tight; high quality is for PDFs that will still be printed or read zoomed in.
